The first Nimbus

"This you can do better" sad factory owner Peder A. Fisker to himself, when he one day sow a foreign motorcycle on the street.

After a couple of years in 1921 the development work of Nimbus model-A had begun.

In 1924 came model-B with an improved front fork. A total number of 1252 pcs was produced until 1927. The citizens of Copenhagen nicknamed this machine "The Stove pipe".

The construction with the big frame tube and side member of flat iron, cardan and sprung rear wheel was unusual at that time, and the costs were almost the same as a Ford T.

The "Pipe" managed well in long distance ride because of its reliability more than its top speed.

The modern Nimbus

The factory owner P. A Fisker's son Anders Fisker was the motive power of Nimbus model-C, or "Bumblebee" as it was called because of its exhaust sound.

The model-C came in 1934 and remained in the same stem form until the production stopped in 1959.

In time "Bumblebee" got bigger brakes, gear change lever and after The War a higher fork.

It could be found as Standard, Special, Sport and Luxus, where the models were different from each other by hp, equipment, painting and cromium.

Frame was unique for the motorcycles and it was of plate (Sheet iron) and long pieces of flat iron that were riveted together. This made it easy to change damaged parts.

After World War Second Nimbus was especially used for transportation of goods and was delivered with side car from the factory. The Post Office the Police and the Military were still the main buyers of Nimbus and the military ordered large stocks of spare parts when the production stopped. This later helped Nimbus through the poor 60's and 70's, where it was very cheap.

In the late 50's the "Bumblebee" was "out of fashion" compared to the competitors. Furthermore people could afford buing a car. At that time a Renault 4CV cost 10.000,- DKK the same as a Nimbus with side car. Fisker & Nielsen developed more modern prototypes, but it was not considered profitable to put them into production.

Of a teted production of about 12.000 Nimbus model C, 3.334 were registered in Denmark in 1997. Nimbus i's the 5th most registered mc in Denmark, 40 years after end production. Outside of Denmark there are several hundred Nimbuses, especially in Germany and USA. An estimated 2000 to 4000 are kept away from the roads.
